W: Oh, no.
听第8段材料,回答第12至14题。
It’s not usually easy to get around in a big city, especially when you are going to a place far away from your place. There are just too many things to slow you down on your way. Suppose you are going to visit a friend who lives at the other end of the city from yours. You start from your place and will feel lucky if the nearest bus stop is within five minutes’ walk from your place, otherwise you will just grow tired of all the walking. After you get to the bus stop, however, you cannot usually expect the bus to arrive at the same time. So naturally you will have to wait for the bus. Sometimes the right bus comes in a short time, but most times you see many buses passing that you don’t want. When the right bus comes, however, you may find it too crowded to get on, so you have to wait for another bus. When you at last get on the bus, fifteen or twenty minutes have passed. This kind of waiting will happen again if you have to change a bus half way. Walking and waiting are not the only things that may delay your trip. The most terrible thing is the traffic jams, which may delay everything you have planned. So when you finally get to your friend’s place, you say to yourself that you will never take those buses again.

M: May I ask you something, Lisa?
W: Sure, Dad. What do you want to know?
M: I haven’t seen Fred for quite a long time. Has he been busy recently?
W: Well, er… Can I tell you later? I’m not ready yet.
M: Of course, he’s your friend, and you can decide when to tell me about him, though I’m very interested in how you two are getting along.
W: I know you care for him, but I really don’t want to take about him for the moment. To tell you the truth, we quarreled.
M: Oh?
W: OK, let me tell you what happened. If you will know, you will. And it’s no use hiding it from you. I don’t want to go out with him anymore.
M: I can sense something serious has happened between you two.
W: Yes, something very serious. He just doesn’t respect me.
M: I’m sorry to hear that.
W: He makes all the decisions and never asks me before doing something. Last week he told his parents that we were going to get married in December without telling me anything about it I was so angry when his mother discussed that with me.
M: I see.
W: And he just thinks that he’s my boss and can decide everything for me.
M: That’s really serious

W: Excuse me. Are you a new student?
M: Yes, why?
W: Well, I am a reporter and I want to write something for the college newspapers about new students. So can I ask you a few questions? It won’t take long.
M: OK, so what do you want to know?
W: I’m most interested in the kind of problem you may have. Have you met any difficulties after coming to this college?
M: Yes, the classrooms are too small. I’m not used to having a lesson with 39 other students in one classroom. We used to have only twenty to twenty five students in one class.
W: I see, so the classes are too big.
M: Yes, and this has led to other problems. For example, it takes longer for me to know all my classmates. And I’m sure the teachers also have difficulty in that. What’s more, how can the teachers pay attention to all the students?
W: Hmm, so that’s all about the size of the class. Any other problems?
M: Yes, the dining-room of the school is too old. I know they have kept it in a very clean state, but if it looks old, I still feel bad in it.
W: The old dinning-room. You are the third student to say that.
M: Last thing, it’s a bit noisy outside the school. I know our school is beside a main road, but I still hope something can be done about it.
W: Can you make any suggestions about how to deal with this problem?
M: I don’t know. It’s difficult. Oh, I have to go now. May I?
W: Of course, thank you.
